Admission procedure

If you are interested in joining the SISSA Cognitive Neuroscience PhD program, please contact any of the professors listed on the faculty members page for further discussion about our research and admission process.

The program will accept new students through two rounds of admission:
- Spring deadline: 31 March 2023.
- Fall deadline: 28 August 2023.

All candidates will be first screened based on academic qualifications and support letters; a subset of the applicants will be invited to enter a written exam and, eventually, an interview. Both the written exam and the interview will be held remotely. The candidates invited to take part into the written exam will receive more information in due course. For the currently open Spring call, the written exam will be held on April 20-21, and the interviews on May 2. For the Fall round, the written exam will happen on September 12-13 and the interviews on September 18.

The call for Fall admission is open here. If you run into any technical or logistical problems in the application process, please send an email to phd@sissa.it and alert one of the faculty as well.

!! IMPORTANT MESSAGE!!
This year there are 2 distinct calls for CNS PhD admission:
(a) General Topics (2 SISSA fellowships)
(b) Brain mechanisms of perception and higher cognitive functions ( 3 PNRR Ricerca DM 118 fellowships)

The difference between them is mainly administrative (i.e., the funds paying the salary) and the fact that candidates who are admitted under call (b) have to spend 6 months of their PhD time abroad (this is compulsory).

Interested candidates are invited to pursue admission to the Ph.D. through simultaneous application. This can be done by selecting both available options on the application form.

Feel free to send an email to phd@sissa.it or to any of the CNS faculty members for clarification about any detail of our PhD program.
