Admission procedure

If you are interested in joining the SISSA Cognitive Neuroscience PhD program, please contact any of the professors listed on the faculty members page for further discussion about our research and admission process.

The program accepts new students through the following procedures:

International (non-EU) candidates: selection based on academic qualifications only (no need to attend exams in SISSA)
Deadline March 17 2020 – Outcome expected by the end of March

All candidates (EU and non-EU alike): selection based on academic qualifications, written exam and interview held in SISSA.
Spring Deadline: 17 March 2020 – Exams on 4 and 5 May 2020
Fall Deadline: 28 August 2020 – Exams on 14 and 15 September 2020

[In light of the COVID-19 situation, we'll be holding the 2020 admission round entirely on line, as usual via an essay and an interview.]

The call for Fall admission are open here. If you run into any technical or logistical problems in the application process, please send an email to and alert one of the faculty as well.

Admitted candidates at either exam will start their program with the beginning of the new academic year, in the October 2020. Candidates who are not admitted in the Spring selection can participate in the Fall exam.

Application FAQs are available on the wiki pages.
