Admission Procedure

If you are interested in joining the SISSA Cognitive Neuroscience PhD program, please contact any of the professors listed on the faculty members page for further discussion about our research and admission process.

The program will accept new students through two rounds of admission:
- Spring deadline: 28 March 2024.
- Fall deadline: 22 August 2024.

All candidates will be first screened based on academic qualifications and support letters; a subset of the applicants will be invited to enter a written exam and, eventually, an interview. Both the written exam and the interview will be held remotely. The candidates invited to take part in the written exam will receive more information in due course. For the currently open Spring call, the written exam will be held on April 8-9, and the interviews on April 18. For the Fall round, the written exam will happen on September 5-6 and the interviews on September 16.

The call for admission is open here. If you run into any technical or logistical problems in the application process, please send an email to and alert one of the faculty as well.

This year there are distinct calls for CNS PhD admission:
(a) SISSA fellowship (5 fellowships)
(b) FSE fellowship (1 fellowship)
The difference between them is mainly administrative (i.e., the funds paying the salary)
Interested candidates are invited to pursue admission to the Ph.D. through simultaneous application. This can be done by selecting both available options on the application form.
Feel free to send an email to or to any of the CNS faculty members for clarification about any detail of our PhD program.
