Hi there! I'm Giulio and I joined SISSA in 2024 as a post doc in prof. Davide Crepaldi's lab. I am generally interested in understanding how people learn and perceive language, and what the underlying cognitive mechanisms are.
Previously, my research focused on how people learn about how various talkers produce speech differently (e.g., due to differences between dialects, biological differences). Despite all these differences listeners can still perceive each talker effortlessly. I used various techniques (behavioural, EEG, MEG) in my research to examine the cognitive mechanisms behind this process.
Currently, my research focusses on how people learn about statistical regularities in speech (i.e., statistical learning). For example, how people learn which sounds frequently co-occur to create words, and which don’t. Again, using neuroimaging techniques, I aim to understand the neural mechanisms behind this process.
In my spare time, I greatly enjoy playing music, sports, reading and cooking.
