Iacopo Hachen is the winner of the “Pedro Lagomarsino de Leon Roig” Prize for the best PhD thesis in Neuroscience obtained in Italy in the XXXIV and XXXV cycles, combining excellent scientific results with excellent methods for data analysis, data management, and open science. The prize, assigned by the Italian Institute of Technology, honors the memory of the Argentine researcher Pedro Lagomarsino de Leon Roig, who died at a young age. Pedro Lagomarsino de Leon Roig was a staunch supporter of the need to conduct science in a way that is fully documented, open, transparent, and reusable by and for everyone.
Iacopo was a PhD student in Cognitive Neuroscience at SISSA and defended his thesis in December 2022 under the supervision of Mathew Diamond. His PhD work addressed the influence of past experience on perceptual decision-making with a combination of behavioral experiments, neurophysiological recordings, and computational modeling. He is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior (Konstanz, Germany).
